Horses and Heroes is an exciting equine therapy program designed for Veterans and active military members who have sustained physical injuries or post traumatic stress disorder while serving our country.

From start to finish, Veterans are hands on with their horse partner as they are provided a unique approach to healing. Through the combined efforts of therapists, medical professionals, and a team of PATH International certified equine specialists, Horses and Heroes focuses on improving the physical, emotional and mental health of wounded Veterans.

For ten weeks, Veterans participate in a three-hour group setting once a week at Heavenly Hoofs Therapeutic Riding Center in Kissimmee. Each session includes mentally challenging ground exercises as well as mounted activities designed to improve the riders' strength, balance and coordination. Doctors and staff from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and S.A.D.L.E.S. Natural Wellness Center partner with Heavenly Hoofs to research the medical benefits gained by participation in these types of therapies.

Horses and Heroes is provided free of charge to Veterans through the contributions of charity minded individuals and organizations. Currently Heavenly Hoofs is seeking sponsors for a growing waiting list of Veterans eager to participate in the Horses and Heroes program.

The cost for a full ten week sponsorship is $3,000, which provides approximately 30 hours of therapy to one Veteran. Heavenly Hoofs is a not for profit organization and all sponsorships are tax deductible.

Heavenly Hoofs’ was founded in 2002 by C.E.O. Thomasa Tompkins Sanchez. Their mission is to provide equine assisted therapies to enhance the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals with disabilities and Veterans of the US Military.
